The Joy of Singing – going strong for 90 years!
It all started in 1932 when Alfred James Harrison, conductor, organist and choirmaster at St Alphege Church, founded what was to become the Whitstable Choral Society. He would be proud and delighted that the Society has continued for ninety years. To all our singers, soloists, directors, team members, patrons, sponsors, friends, and so many more – a big Thank You!
Who We Are
Our Music Director, Spencer Payne, is currently Director of Music at St. Edmund's School, Canterbury. He is an accomplished performer, accompanist, teacher and examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Spencer helps us all to learn the music and gives us all confidence that we can do ourselves justice.
Our Chorus Master, Sally Godsell, is a trained class teacher. She has sung in choirs since the age of six. Over the years, Sally has been a member of various choirs in the area and currently she also sings with Caritas Chamber Choir and Eastbridge Chorale. Her outstanding singing expertise provides grounding confidence to the whole choir.
